So appropriate for this website is his name as the “saint of the fire-starters.” Among the earliest of the Apostolic Fathers and a contemporary of St. Clement, he also called himself “Theophorus”: the God-bearer. It got him into trouble with Emperor Trajan.
We also believe that he was a son of Jesus Christ. You can learn more about him from the last Cambrian Pesher for the Day of St. Barnabas – Barnabas (aka Lazarus) who we believe was his uncle.
His festal celebration begins the 17th of October in the Western tradition and will end this Lord’s Day. Here is the link for The Feast St. Ignatius: On the Redaction of Christianity.
God bless you.
