Today is Mother’s Day for the American holiday calendar. It should add poignancy that a woman’s firstborn has a special role in a family-based society, which ours is not, unfortunately. I don’t know how a “Mother’s Day” celebration can help restore or preserve the family in a society so removed from its foundations, but I suppose it couldn’t hurt.
