Aside from the possibility of direct Divine Revelation, it was not physically possible for Noah to have known the extent and devastation of the Deluge. It was not possible for him to have sounded the depths of the sea, sighted the height of the mountains or to have been in communication with the extent of the civilization that was destroyed. There was one tiny window and it was closed during the entire ordeal. In a future study, I will be analyzing the construction of the Ark and offering an account different than popular interpretation.
Noah would not have seen the nova. He would not have observed the sky phenomena or the incinerations, deformations, flash freezing and other catastrophes experienced elsewhere on the Earth. The people who were trapped in caves and died left us with that knowledge in their final messages scrawled on the walls of their tombs.
After the Flood, Noah and his sons could have done a forensic analysis of their surroundings and inferred what might have happened. But it has been left to explorers and scientists, thousands of years after the event, to come to some understanding of what happened and why it will happen again.
This is the role of science.
