Survival Praxis #2 – The Kill Shot

There has been much discussion among catastrophists as to the prospects of a solar eruption equivalent to the Carrington Event of 1859 and its potential to take down the power grid and generally destroy the electronics of our current technology. It is possible.

The Carrington Event occurred prior to our electrical age, but the telegraph did exist and reports abound that the result of that solar flare melted the wires and caused electrical fires. These reports have been published to the internet over the years, and it is a subject of concern for Ben Davidson and his “Suspicious 0bservers” community. He believes we are due for another one.

He calls it “the Kill Shot” because our technology is particularly vulnerable. It would be more than just an EMP – a brief pulse or series of electro-magnetic pulses we imagine would occur during a nuclear explosion. EMPs from a nuclear attack could be shielded by a Faraday Cage and many people have begun “hardening” their electronics using this protective technology.

But it is difficult to imagine that any Faraday Cage would protect us from a Carrington-level event which would involve a sustained onslaught of solar flaring over the period of hours if not days. Every copper wire would be melted, every circuit fried, and the ability to replace those components impossible. Our technology to produce that technology uses that technology.

We would be cast back to the pre-electrical age. The only technology that would work would be the handiwork of the smith, the smelter and the whittler – think early 19th Century technology. Do you know anything about it? I sure don’t.

In the article, “Remains of the Day: 1 in 3 Chance,” I offer the proposition that we are living in a time of a “nova watch.” Much like a “tornado watch,” the conditions exist for a nova to occur, but events have not materialized – yet – to justify a “nova warning.”

Should we experience “the kill shot,” I think a nova warning would be appropriate. Only problem is, we will no longer have access to the information and the technology to get ready for it. I strongly suggest that you begin to accumulate a library and learn the skills our ancestors used to survive 200 years ago. Use this time during the “nova watch” to obtain the resources you will need to survive a post-killshot environment, but also to prepare for God’s great eschaton.

God bless you.

You “strongly suggest” we personally obtain a library of preindustrial knowledge to facilitate survival after an EMP kill shot.

Does it escape you that the following basic resources are no longer available to humanity at large, regardless of the sufficiency of such a “library?”

1.) Naturally available fresh water for consumption.

2.) Wild animals for safe food consumption and other uses.

3.) Seasonal weather allowing crop cultivation.

4.) A robust human genome within the common populace.

5.) First hand training to demonstrate and make use is such a “library.”

Let me know if you have the capacity to understand and respond to the reality of what I just said here.

Thank you for your thoughtful input. The people you describe are already doomed or have already learned how to survive and don’t need my website.
